A cultural event center and a field house. Given that the location is in Pilsen, a historic city with a great ethnic diversity and that it is close to Chinatown, the idea of designing a space that could be used, shared, and connect many cultures would be advantageous. By using the diagrid structure, programs within the building can be visually connected to one another. Using butterfly roofs with altered low points was inspired by the site analysis of Pilsen’s architectural history, which revealed a range of roof-lines and distinct architectural styles across each time. It also shows the various building programs and how to see them as a whole.
